Lack of sleep nothing seems to work?...

For my daughter I had tried everything from:

Freezing Spoons
Frozen Teething Rings
A Cold Wash Cloth

What i had done that worked for me, was giving a little Motrin, and putting her binki in the freezer. I also put her bottles in the freezer for an hour before I give it to her, That helps the most! I hope this helps the new parents out there... I will give more Advice in another post.

When your infant has a fever, it's important to know how to react. For a child, any temperature above 100.4 degrees F is generally considered to be a fever. Infants' Pain Relief Drops can help the reduction of fever and temporary relief of minor aches and pains associated with a cold, flu, headache, sore throat, immunizations or toothache. Also, fever in infants from 0 - 3 months is usually caused by an infection so it's best to have them evaluated by a healthcare professional.

"Using MEG, we can record the tiny magnetic fields associated with electrical brain activity," said Timothy Roberts, Ph.D.

What happened last night for our country was not what I was hoping for. I was not surprised, but it was still very hard to see come about. I am usually not an emotional person, but being pregnant is seeming to bring this out of me. I have spent much time over the last few months praying for this election and giving it fully to God. I wanted a miracle and for the Christian/conservative values I believe in to be shown to America and not taken in the other direction. Why did I become so consumed by this? I think it was because God wanted to teach me some amazing things and mold me during this time. I am thankful for what He has done in my life over the last few weeks and especially the last few days.

Before this election I was so sad and hurt at the thought of Obama and the Democrats gaining such power in this country. I feared that they would bring this nation farther from God. Also, over the last few months I have never seen so much negative media leading our people, people being torn apart for their different political views, and looking to these political leaders to save them instead of clinging to the ultimate Savior. I can hardly stand to watch TV right now as it is being dictated by such a liberal media that people are turning to for answers for their life. I hate that to become president or other elected offices you have to lie and bash the other party beyond belief. People are also clinging to some of the new elected leaders believing they have come to save and rescue them. Rescue them from these "bad times" and bring much needed change that will in return ultimitely make them happy....or not? It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach! I am afraid that people putting their hope towards such things will only lead to disappointment. Only God can fill the holes in our life and make us complete and meet all of our needs. Also I must mention that we are really not having "bad times" right now in America that over half of the people believe because they were told so.

Do Americans think hard times are:(From an article David Letterman wrote recently:
-that 95% of Americans have a job
-being able to go get food at local grocery stores whenever we want
-being able to drive across this country without having to show identification as we enter each state
-if we are hurt or sick we can get immediate care from a hospital close by
-Over 90% of us have cell phones and many with flat screen TV's and many other luxuries
-We have political, religious, and social freedom that other countries long for
-70% of Americans have homes
-air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter

God has blessed us all so richly in this country and we are so ungrateful!!

What has God Taught me Through This?
God has really convicted me of several things. I want to share a story that happened yesterday as I was headed to vote. I was saying prayers in the car and had the Christian radio station on. Since I am emotional right now I teared up as I again lifted my hand and surrendered this election to Him. "May your sovereign will be done!" I said. As the polls had already been open I knew there was not anything more I could do, but trust God. Then I heard a wonderful song come on. Not even sure who it was or the song. But there were several phrases that made tears stream down my face. Phrases something like this: "When all has faded no more tears will be shed." "All the things of this world will be gone." "But Jesus will still remain." "There will be another day"

At that moment I was reminded that we get so caught up in so many things that in the scheme of things do not matter. As tears were coming down my face I was also happy to hear that there would come a day when there would be no more tears or sadness. :) All that matters is that I serve and follow God and look forward to the day when I will be in perfect harmony with him. Yes, there are so many things going on in this country and world that are not leading people to God and even yet farther from Him. But, we as Christians need to stand strong and boldly proclaim His name to this nation and country. May we lead people to the true leader during this time and have real change! May we talk about God more then the election and the leaders in office in America. Many people are being steered the wrong way and they will only be disappointed when it once again fails. These people need to see the face of God and how he can save and meet there every need. Only He can do that! I truly believe and trust that God is going to use what is going on in America and our culture to bring more people to Him! May He be glorified as we unite together for His name!

Since the election is over I am also very convicted that I must steer away from spending so much time in front of the TV and computer. I must instead spend time on things that really are important. I must focus more of my time on growing my relationship with Christ instead of feeding it things not of Him.

So you came home with your baby. Whether it is the first-born or not, its always an exhilarating experience and an opportunity to learn new things everyday.
Your baby probably already had the first Hepatitis B vaccine and the newborn screen at the hospital. Also, he or she already passed the hearing test. Congratulations! This article reviews what you need to know about your newborns developmental milestone, feedings, elimination, and safety.
There are some essential things to know when you bring your neonate home. First of all, per the hospitals recommendations, set up a follow-up appointment with your babys health care provider (usually 3-4 days post delivery). It is important to evaluate your infant, i.e. check the weight, listen to the heart, etc. Also, you may have questions that need to be answered: prepare a list before the visit so that nothing gets forgotten! Most health care providers like when patients come to the appointment well prepared. It helps us address all of your needs!
Below, I outlined some important things to know about your baby from the very first day.
DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES
Your baby should respond to noise. For example, she should startle at the sound of a slamming door or a barking dog. By one month of age, she should be able to distinguish between the moms voice and voices of other people. However, some babies have this ability from the very first days after birth. Your babys vision is intact, but right now she can best see objects and faces placed 8-12 inches away from her face. Also, she does not like bright lights. Babies like to open their eyes in dim light by the adult standards.
FEEDINGS
During the first few weeks, dont worry about schedules: your baby should eat on demand, on average every 2-4 hours. However, babies experience rapid growth spurts from time to time, and during those times they may be hungry every 1-2 hours. Just play it by ear. Also, keep in mind that your babys stomach is very small (about the size of her fist), so it cant hold more than a couple of ounces at the time. If you feed your infant formula and notice excessive spit ups, decrease the amount of the formula but feed your baby a little more often. Dont let more than four hours pass between feedings. You do not want you baby get frustrated with hunger and make the feeding experience unpleasant. At any time, your breastfed or formula fed baby spits up excessively, talk to your health care provider. She may suggest a formula change or, on rare occasions, medication.
ELIMINATION
A healthy newborn should pass the first bowel movement (BM) within 36 hours after being born. After establishing a healthy BM pattern, your baby may go to the bathroom once or a few times a day, or every other day, or so. One thing to keep in minds is that not everybody has a BM every day! As long as you infant is comfortable between BMs and they do not look like pebbles, there is no reason for concern. Also, keep in mind that breast milk has much less waste than formula. Therefore, your baby may have less frequent and malodorous BMs than a formula-fed infant.
Urination is a good indication of hydration. A few days old baby should have at least 4-5 wet diapers and work her way up to more than 6 a day!
SAFETY
The safest sleeping position for your baby is on her back. It decreases the chance of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) (See Box 1). Co-sleeping of infants and parents is no longer recommended. Such sleeping arrangements create an unsafe environment for the baby who can suffocate on bedding or be crushed by a sleeping adult. Every baby should sleep in her own bassinet or crib. Smoking should not be allowed around your baby as well. Cigarette smoke exposure not only increases the risk of SIDS, but it also increases your babys susceptibility to catching upper respiratory tract infections.
Practice measuring your babys temperature. Should the temperature be 100F or above, undress the infant and let her cool off. Small babies overheat easily! After 15 minutes, check the temperature again. If the temperature is still 100F or above, your baby needs to be examined by a health care provider right away. That is true until the infant is 3 month old, because until then the immune system does not know how to work efficiently and fever may be a sign of a serious illness.
The series on newborns will cover in the future issues topics, such as jaundice of the newborn, the senses, primitive reflexes, six states of consciousness breastfeeding, reactions of older siblings to the newborn, postpartum depression, and infants social development. If there are other topics that you would like to read about, email me at health@pluggedinparents.com
Box 1. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
SIDS is a sudden and unpredictable death of a seemingly healthy infant younger than 12 months of age. The diagnosis comes only after other causes of death are ruled out. You can take steps to reduce your babys risk of SIDS by placing her to sleep on her back even though she might prefer to sleep on her belly! Make sure that the mattress in her crib is firm! Also, offering a pacifier to your infants (only if she does not reject it!) may decrease the risk of SIDS. Avoid cigarette smoke exposure and do not overdress your infant as overheating may contribute to SIDS.
