My grandma and mother both got diagnosed with breast cancer when they were 33, and my grandma only had it once, but my mother had it four times. i heard it was gentic, and i am wondering if maybe there is an oncologist that would know what my chances are. my grandma and mother both lived through all cancer(s). If your mothers breast cancer was due to one of the rare inherited faulty
CA genes known to be responsible for hereditary breast cancer, then you have a 50% chance of having inherited that gene - and of course a 50% chance that you didnt.
If you did inherit a faulty gene from your mother, that does not mean you will definitely get breast cancer, but that your chances are increased; it would mean you had between a 50% and 80% chance of developing it by age 70.
If your mother carries a faulty gene and you HAVENT inherited it, then your risk of breast cancer is no greater than anyone elses.
Breast cancer is not usually hereditary - only 5 - 10% of cases are. Because your mother and grandma (Im assuming its your mothers mother) had breast cancer at a young age, it may well be that it was due to one of the inherited
CA genes - they can be tested for this if they havent been alreaady. If so you will be offered testing when you are older to see if you carry that gene.

CA genes and both her adult daughters have been tested for it - one has inherited it, the other hasnt.

The suspect in the deadly shooting at a military recruiting center in Arkansas is the latest in a series of Muslim converts accused of planning or launching violent attacks in the U.S., part of what security experts call an alarming domestic trend.

The attack came less than two weeks after a foiled bomb plot on two synagogues in Riverdale, N.Y., allegedly led by four men who converted to Islam in prison or shortly after their incarceration.

Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, the 23-year-old accused of killing a U.S. soldier and injuring another in the attack Monday in Little Rock, was born in Tennessee as Carlos Leon Bledsoe. He reportedly converted to Islam as a teenager, and court records show he changed his name in March 2006.

Little Rock police said there was no indication Muhammad was part of a wider plot to attack the military, but terrorism experts say there are important connections between his and other homegrown terror plots in recent years, including their targets, motives and inspiration.

"The real common denominator is the ideological commitment (present) in every single case I've seen over the past few months and over the past few years," said Walid Phares, director of the Future of Terrorism Project at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

Phares said the vast majority of converts are nonviolent, but a few embrace the teachings of extremist religious mentors. "In the lives of these diverse people there's always one moment where there's a click," he said in which the budding convert is turned by a radical cleric or ideologue, or swayed by indoctrinating material they find online.

Prosecutors say Muhammad was targeting U.S. soldiers "because of what they had done to Muslims in the past" and was angry about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But some terror experts say that reasoning is a cover for their true grievances. The alleged ringleader of the plot in New York professed a similar motivation and hoped to take down a military plane at a local airstrip but only after he tried to bomb two synagogues in a war against the Jews.

"I think there are a lot of personal reasons these people do this as opposed to the ideological reasons or religious reasons that become the excuse," said Neil Livingstone, a national security and terrorism consultant.

Livingstone said some people on the margins of society are "easy marks" for radicals who energize them with twisted teachings about Islam. "Most of these guys I think what it comes down to they're misfits, they believe they've suffered injustice. ... They basically are striking back at society," he told FOXNews.com.

That is especially the case in prisons, where many black inmates convert to Islam and which have been identified as a "radicalizing cauldron" by law enforcement officials.

The Riverdale plotters are the most recent example, but another group of ex-cons was preparing terrorist attacks on Jewish and government targets around Los Angeles in 2005 when it was disrupted by local law enforcement.

Muslim advocacy groups say such radicals practice a false faith and only make up a small minority only of American Muslims. "It's a ridiculous form of Islam," said Kamal Nawash, president of the Free Muslim Coalition. Nawash said that some converts, particularly those who have been incarcerated, practice "the most extreme version of the religion" and enter with their own personal and political grievances...

Combined oestrogen-progestagen HRT increases the risk of breast cancer much more than the other types. Around three-quarters (15,000) of the additional breast cancers are believed to be the result of using oestrogen-progestagen HRT.
 Women using combined HRT have double the risk of breast cancer compared to women who do not use HRT at all. Those who use HRT for more than10 years increase their risk even more so the longer a woman uses HRT the greater the increase in her risk.
 There is good news though. Breast cancer risk quickly goes back to normal when women stop taking HRT. Research shows that the effects of HRT on the breast are rapidly reversible.
 Women deserted HRT in their droves after research from the Women’s Health Initiative study in the and the Million Women Study in the found that using hormone therapy could increase breast cancer risk.

 Professor Max Parkin, a Cancer Research UK statistician based at Queen Mary College, University of London said: “Between 1996 and 2000 we can estimate that HRT use was responsible for an additional breast cancer risk of around 30 per cent to UK women in their 50s.
 “We cannot be absolutely sure that the drop in both breast cancer rates and breast cancer risk is the direct result of women giving up HRT. But the parallel is striking and it will be interesting to see if this decline continues over the next few years.”
 It can be a difficult balancing act deciding whether to take HRT. Symptoms can be so severe that they need medication. But that medication can increase the risk of cancer, and not just breast cancer.
 Cancer Research ’s advice remains the same: women should only take HRT for medical reasons and for as short a time as possible.

Once again, we are breaking into the series tasting wines from each of Italy?s twenty wine regions. This article examines a noble red wine from the island of Sicily in southern Italy. It is very far from a bargain wine. We were about a dozen to taste it. I?ll be presenting my opinions and those of others.
So far, the wines that I purchased for this series have cost a maximum of about $20. I thought that I should try one at about double the price. I felt that by going to a relatively unknown region such as Sicily I might get a bargain. A lot of wines from the Tuscany or Piedmont regions of Italy cost $40 or much, much more. Such is not the case for Sicily.
Italy?s top of the line wine designation is DOCG, which stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata Garantita (Denomination of Controlled, Guaranteed Origin.) There are no DOCG wines in Sicily. But the formal designation is not very important, many Super Tuscans costing at least twice my budget carry ?inferior? designations. The wine I chose carries the Contea di Sclafania DOC designation, having been promoted from the Sicilia IGT designation. The wine reviewed here is produced by the same company as the white Sicilian wine reviewed in my article I Love Italian Wine and Food ? The Sicily Region. This was no accident. First I bought the relatively expensive red. Then I bought the white wine for about one third the price. This white wine carries the Sicilia IGT designation, but I found it to be pretty good. Let?s take a look at its much more expensive red cousin.

About 35 years ago, Count Tasca d?Almerita decided to make a flagship Sicilian red wine from two local grapes, Nero d?avola and Perricone. Nero d?avola is a thin-skinned grape that ripens extremely late, perhaps three weeks after Cabernet Sauvignon. Consequently this variety is virtually limited to Sicily. Some think that it is a relative of Syrah. Nero d?avola wines are usually dark and tarry, with lots of black fruit aroma and taste. They are rich and well structured, with firm and silky tannins. Many of the grapes in this bottle came from vines over forty years old. The plants are grown as shrubs, a somewhat unusual practice. This wine was aged for twelve months in French oak barrels, about 60% of which are new. It can be cellared for years. I only wish that I could taste a ten or twenty year old Rosso del Conte.
I?ll spare you the marketing materials and reviews that tend to be very laudatory. Here are the comments from my tasting group.
A bit of black fruit. Highly oaked. Toasted grains, toast, grilled barley. Nervous and wild. Garriga (a mixture of spices found in areas near the Mediterranean Sea). Leather, dried meat, musk, and underbrush. A strong presence. Acidic and tannic, but not very long. Moderately long, fairly tannic. Round. More fruit than oak.
When asked to guess the price, the general consensus was considerably lower than what I actually paid. It?s fair to assume that most of these people would not purchase this wine, even if they do buy wines in this price range. On the other hand, it?s not hard to find reviews on the Internet that draw the opposite conclusion. In fact, every review that I read was more laudatory than my tasting group was. And my thoughts?
Personally, I would rather drink wine with food than without food. There were only a few sips left in the bottle but I was able to squeeze out two pairings. First I tried slow-cooked beef ribs with potatoes and a side of green beans in tomato sauce. This wine was the essence of mouth-filling, a tiny sip enveloped my mouth with pleasure. The wine?s acidity and tannins handled the meat?s fat. If only I had more.
Isola is a Sicilian fresh cheese made from sheep?s milk. The Isola cheese was powerful, strong smelling and strong tasting, especially when you crunched into a peppercorn. The Rosso del Conte?s richness and complexity was quite noticeable in the presence of this cheese. I am glad that I didn?t waste the last precious sips of this wine on a weak cheese.
Final verdict. It?ll probably be quite some time before I buy another bottle of Rosso del Conte. I do think that it?s worth the price, but I can?t say that I got a $100 wine for less than $40. Have you ever done so.

It was perfect timing for all the teams, and we felt if they were already travelling to our country for the competition, it would benefit all involved if they could come a few days earlier and play the matches. We will handle everything else including accommodation, and they have agreed to arrive earlier than scheduled in order to play the matches, Warner told TTFF media officer Shaun Fuentes.
TT Under-20 head coach Zoran Vranes welcomed the news of the matches, which he said will fall nicely into his teams final build-up for the competition.
I am extremely glad that we will get to play these matches against similar opposition to what we will face in the tournament, Vranes told Fuentes on Monday.
We will have the chance to work on our weaknesses in actual playing time, and it will give us sufficient time to fine-tune our game. We are working very hard at the moment to get the team to a sufficiently good level just in time for the competition, and I believe we will get it right. Our fitness level is good at this time and those matches will serve us well.
Vranes added that he was looking forward to Belgium-based midfielder Khaleem Hyland and new German signing Jamal Gay returning to the team for the competition.
They will be a boost to our chances. Jamal has been part of our set-up and he will fall right back into our plans. I hope they dont forget about us because they will bring some added value to the team.
TT open their final round qualifying campaign against Canada on March 7 at the Marvin Lee Stadium. They will then face Costa Rica on March 9, and Mexico two days later at the same venue.
The top two teams from the group will advance to the U-20 World Championship in Egypt from September 23-October 18.

A number of Chinese herbs can be useful for the many different facets of Lyme Disease. Lyme Disease is a bacterial infectious disease caused by the spirochetal organism, Borrelia Burgdorferi. Herbs that have been shown to have activity against spirochetal bacteria include coptis (huang lian), andrographis paniculata (chuan xin lian), isatis (ban lan gen/qing dai), phellodendron (huang bai), scute (huang qin), forsythia (lian qiao), smilax (tu fu ling), and gardenia (zhi zi). Garlic is also a useful antibacterial supplement for those with Lyme Disease.
Lyme disease can lower body temperature and create poor blood circulation. A person is also likely to feel cysts, lumps, and swellings in different areas of their body that often change and move. The bacteria walls itself off, and creates an environment in which it can grow and thrive and the person with the disease ends up in severe pain, with horribly low energy, and neurological problems. The disease thrives in a low temperature, low oxygen environment, and that is the environment it creates within the body. People with the disease often have signs and symptoms similar to someone with severe altitude sickness (also caused by a low oxygen environment). Chinese herbs that clear blood stasis and break blood stagnation can be very useful for this aspect of the disease. The herb, pseudoginseng (san qi), can be extremely beneficial for people with Lyme Disease. It promotes blood circulation and oxygenation in the body, and can force open the cysts that protect the bacteria from being killed off. It also can help clear some of the brain fog that people with this disease have by improving blood circulation and oxygenation to the brain. Frankincense (ru xiang), and myrrh (mo yao) can also help by improving blood circulation, especially to the joints, where the bacteria often hides in cartilaginous tissue where blood circulation tends to be poorer. An herb that is frequently used by people with Lyme Disease, teasel root, is beneficial because it improves circulation in the body and also has a warming affect. All of these herbs can help significantly with the intense and chronic pain that those with later stages of Lyme disease experience.
Certain Chinese herbs can be used to reduce the person?s sensitivity to cold and improve microcirculation in the body. Herbs such as clove, cinnamon, ginger, and siegesbeckia can be useful for this purpose.
The lymphatic system and the metabolism are often compromised in people with Lyme Disease. The bacteria frequently hides inside the walls of white blood cells, and results in swollen and congested lymph glands. People with the disease often have symptoms of hypothyroidism and a slowed metabolic rate even if all of their thyroid tests are normal. In Chinese Medicine, herbs that treat phlegm are frequently used for conditions related to a slow metabolism and a congested lymphatic system. The Chinese herb, prunella vulgaris (xia ku cao), and scrophularia (xuan shen) are very useful for inflammation, congestion, and infection of the lymphatic system. Herbs such as citrus aurantium, kelp, epimedium, and Siberian ginseng, can be beneficial for improving a sluggish metabolism in people with Lyme Disease who have signs or symptoms of an underactive thyroid.
