QUESTION: Now that my wife is successfully past an operation to remove her gallstones, we learn of two other methods that might have made it a bit easier on her.
One is the use of sound waves, and another was to use ether to dissolve the stones.
Was there any reason for my wife to have an operation, when those methods are available?
ANSWER: Though there are new methods available to treat cholelithiasis (gall stones), the tried and true method of surgically removing the diseased gall bladder still is preferred by many.
It is still the only method by which the problem is solved permanently, and which prevents the possibility of gallstone recurrence.
In each of the three alternative methods now available to rid a patient of gallstones (you forgot to mention oral medications which will dissolve gallstones formed of cholesterol), the gall bladder remains in place, which provides the location for more stones to form.
While the other methods sound less traumatic, they often require additional treatments to achieve a complete removal of the stones.
Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (called ESWL for obvious reasons), which uses ultrasound waves to break up the stones, may leave fragments which are too large to pass, and require another treatment in as many as 3 out 4 patients.
The use of methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE) to dissolve the stones requires passing a catheter through the skin into the gall bladder, and is not without its share of complications.
With the operation over, your wife can look forward to a life free of gall bladder disease.

Among the many beliefs that have circulated around masturbation since time immemorial, one of the most common ones was that excessive indulgence in it caused baldness in men. How this belief got started in those ancient times is not known, but it is strongly suggested today by medical investigation that this can indeed be the case.
What is the Link between OM and Hair Loss?
The interesting thing to know is what the link between OM and hair loss is. Is there really a connecting link between one head and the other? Well, yes, there is. That link is dihydrotestosterone, simply known as DHT. DHT is a hormone, an offshoot of the male sex hormone, testosterone. This hormone is directly responsible for hair loss in men. This is also the very same hormone that is related to the excitement that is very much a part of sexual activity and of masturbation. So, there is a link between hair loss and excessive masturbation.
DHT is not normally present in the male body. This is caused when a person masturbates too much. Due to excessive ejaculation, the testosterone in the body of the man gets converted into dihydrotestosterone. Such high levels of DHT can cause an overload in the body of the male, which can cause several repercussions. Some major repercussions could be like the enlargement of the prostate gland caused due to poor circulation of the blood. But one important side-effect of the high levels of DHT is the baldness, which can begin occurring even in young boys who masturbate too much.
Let us try to understand how DHT can cause baldness in the first place. DHT is produced due to several triggering factors, of which OM is a significant one. Some other factors that can trigger the production of DHT are stress, over-intake of caffeine products, hormonal imbalances and even genetic factors. The concentration of DHT is high in localized regions of the body such as the liver and the skin. Even the skin of the hair follicles contains DHT when it is produced by the triggering factors. Recent studies suggest that when DHT is produced in an abundant excess, it accumulates in the hair follicles to such a large extent that the size of the follicles progressively decrease. As a result, the hair may be simply expelled out from the follicle, right from its root. Not only will this cause baldness, but it will also make sure that hair will never again grow back in that same place.
Methods to Lower Levels of DHT in the Body
Reducing its frequency is of course one of the best ways to lower the production of DHT in the body. But there are some other methods too that one must know of. Here is a list of all the methods that can be employed to lower the levels of DHT in the body, and thus prevent the risk of baldness to some extent:-
(i) Red meats must be avoided as far as possible. Avoid beef and pork. White meats, including those of fish, can be had without a problem as they do not have any direct effects on increasing the levels of DHT.
(ii) Include seeds and nuts in the diet. These contain L-arginine, which is a natural growth hormone agent. Isoflavones are also present in them, which help in the proper functioning of the prostate gland. A healthy prostate is known to maintain good health of the hair and prevent them from falling.
(iii) Your diet must also be rich in fresh vegetables and fruits. These are stores of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. They will improve your blood circulation and will happen to properly streamline the production of DHT. Some other herbs that can improve your blood circulation are ginseng and Ginkgo biloba.
(iv) One way of getting relief from excessive production of DHT is to burn the testosterone from the body by indulging in healthy exercise. The exercise does not need to be something heavy-duty, but it is enough if it is something that burns down the testosterone from the system. Normal walking is the best exercise that can be done.
Remedies for Over Masturbation
The Paradizo range of products is designed specifically to combat the various problems that OM brings on in men. The product line consists of natural herbal extracts of the winter cherry (which is Ashwagandha, known as the Indian ginseng), cowhage, caltrop, early purple orchid and nutmeg. But, most importantly, it contains Shilajit, which is a mineral extract from the rocks which contains several vital ingredients to boost the sexual capacity in men.
Another product line for the same purpose is Kohinoor. This also contains the above minerals in carefully formulated packages. In addition, the Kohinoor products also contain the Ginkgo biloba. Both ginseng and Ginkgo biloba are known to lower DHT levels in men.
Both Paradizo and Kohinoor can respond to the counter-effects of OM. They can make the erections harder, increase libido and increase the sexual vigor in men. But most importantly, they can gradually enlarge the size to its maximum capacity, which counters the shrinking effect of the organ due to OM. These remedies have been prepared under traditional Ayurvedic methods under the supervision of pharmaceutical greats from around the world.

Merck's Emend (aprepitant), which is also an NK-1? Get familiar with the results of an ASCO 2008 abstract titled, "Phase III results for the novel neurokinin-1 (NK-1) receptor antagonist, casopitant: Single oral dosing regimen for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in patients (Pts) receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC)." That's quite a title.
The conclusion is simple: A single oral dose of casopitant added to a regimen of OND/DEX provided a clinically significant reduction in the number of pts experiencing CINV events over the first 5 days after HEC. This benefit appeared to be maintained through repeat cycles. This regimen was generally well tolerated over all cycles.

Raj Kumar asked:
Cystic acne can be defined as a kind of abscess that is formed when oil ducts get chocked up and then infected. Usually, cystic acne is observed during the teenage years and mainly involves the face. Cystic acne that affects the deeper dermal layers can end up in more superficial inflammation as compared to that of the ordinary acne. This type of acne breakout is quite painful and can end up in deep scars. Most of the skin specialists believe cystic acne as the most advanced stage of acne that requires special medical attention.
But then how to fight cystic acne? If you are worried about the same, it is important to know that cystic acne requires more time to heal as the infection is deep seated and has affected deeper dermal layer. In most of the cases, the treatment for cystic acne is restricted to oral medicines and therefore, it is preferred that all the cases required to be treated by some skin experts. But there are some preventive measurements and remedies that can be helpful against cystic acne. For those people who look for some natural remedies for cystic acne should try some homemade remedies and other products that contain some potential herbs that have natural skin healing properties.
In order to know how to fight cystic acne, it is important to treat the cause as cystic acne is one of the types of advanced stage of acne wherein acne is filled with pus. The pus is a whitish-yellow fluid that is the caused due to pyogenic bacterial infection produced during bodys immunity responses against the infection. Hence, to fight cystic acne, antibacterial medication is very much required that help getting rid of infection.
How to fight cystic acne in effective manner
Cystic acne requires to be treated as early as possible. This is because of the likelihood of additional cyst formation and the tendency to turn into acne scars. Dermatologists might treat such condition by draining the lesions in case, the lesion is not responding to any other treatment and the condition has gone beyond its normalcy. The incision and drainage is generally followed by a course of specific antibiotics.
An alternative treatment is injecting some cortisone into the cysts that helps decreasing the inflammatory conditions. Accutane is another treatment that is used by many dermatologists because of its severe nature of the acne. It is the teratogenic effects of Accutane that is a major caution as its use in pregnant women is not well established. Women should therefore go for some appropriate birth control methods at least a month prior to the therapy, during the therapy, and for one month after therapy has been stopped. It is better for the women to consult doctor about when it is okay to conceive after the therapy Accutane is over. This is problematical as many women develop cystic acne due to bodily hormonal imbalance. Moreover, Accutane is far-familiar to have some depressive effects on young males.

Are there any preparations required prior to Fraxel treatment?
No, just make sure you bring some money with you. In general, no preparations are required but individuals who have acute acne, those who have uncontrolled diabetes, or those who are taking blood thinning medications are not candidates for Fraxel laser. Further individuals who have lupus or any other collagen vascular disorder should avoid Fraxel Laser.
If I am taking accutane, can the fraxel be used on me?
Unfortunately, individuals who are on accutane for acne have to wait at least 4-6 months after discontinuing the drug before they can have Fraxel Therapy. The reason for this is that accutane does react adversely with the laser and can cause severe scarring.
How is fraxel treatment for acne scars done?
The treatment is generally done in a physicians office or a clinic. NOTE, in almost all cosmetic centers, the treatments are done by technicians and nurses. The doctors have many clinics running at the same time and very rarely do they actively perform the procedures themselves (unless you are a VIP). The face is rinsed and gently dried. Your eyes will be covered to protect them from the laser beam. The therapist will apply a topical anesthetic on the face to numb the pain. After this, the fraxel laser is held close to the skin surface and activated. Each fraxel treatment takes about 15-20 minutes.
Is the treatment with fraxel painful?
Depends whom you talk to. The doctors always say no. the patients always say, damn that hurt. In general, the pain is like a hot needle. Some tolerate it, but most find the experience unpleasant. Besides a topical anesthetic, the therapist may also blow a cool mist on the face. Further some latest lasers also come with a cooling tip to minimize the pain. Once the procedure is over, most people feel a warmth sensation similar to a sun burn. This feeling lasts about 1-2 hrs and quickly wears off. After the procedure there is no pain and most individuals do not require any supplemental pain medications (Customer testimonials say exactly the opposite- the face does get swollen and red and there is pain)
What are side effects of Fraxel when treating acne scars?
The two major side effects are redness and mild swelling. Both these side effects are transient and generally resolve in 1-2 days. One can apply facial make up to hide the redness.

Getting straight hair is not always an easy task, especially if your hair is extremely curly.

I am curious to know what kind of baseball bats most international baseball leagues use. I know here in the United States that for the major league level, they use wooden bats and for the college level they can use aluminum. Im trying to figure out what they use at the highest level possible for most international baseball leagues such as Japan, South America, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Microdermabrasion is the process of using air-blown sand type crystals to gently clean the skin and remove blemishes. Epidermal abrasion is a safe process that is performed over several sessions. Age and skin condition will determine the number of treatments. For most skin disorders, a minimum of five treatments is recommended. It is an effective way of improving the skin without using chemicals or laser treatments.
Epidermal abrasion treatments remove the dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells from the top layers of the skin. The process is usually performed on the face, but other areas where it has been effective include the neck, chest, hands, back, and feet. The result is smooth and soft skin.
What Skin Problems does it treat? Microdermabrasion is performed on men and women who are afflicted with clogged or enlarged pores, acne, wrinkles and fine lines, sun damaged skin, age spots, blackheads, stretch marks, discolorations, and skin blemishes. The process can also treat acne scarring and reduce oily and dry skin. This also stimulates the development of collagen.
How does it work? A microdermabrasion treatment involves a microderm machine that produces a pressurized stream of crystals on the skins surface. There are a variety of crystals used and include aluminum oxide, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, corundum, and sodium chloride. Aluminum oxide tends to be main crystal that is used. Treat alternatives include Vibraderm, which uses a vibrating paddle. The speed of the device acts as a gentle abrasive which removes the surface layers of the skin. Removing the surface layers leaves the skin smooth and clean. The microdermabrasion also stimulates the flow of blood which carries nutrients that regenerates and repairs the skin. The result is much healthier skin.
Treatment of the face can be performed in 15 to 30 minutes. You should allow a week between each session. .Pre-consultations are required before treat is performed. The skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure so most physicians recommend using sunscreen following a microdermabrasion session.
Can treatment be used on all skin types? The benefit of using epidermal abrasion is that it is safe to use on all skin types. Chemical peels and laser treatment can be harsh on sensitive skin. It is not painful so it does not require anesthesia. There are minimal side affects which may include temporary redness or swelling that lasts only a couple of hours. If there is slight crusting on the skin, it can be treated with a skin cleanser and topical antibiotic. Although treat is a safe procedure, there are people who should not have it. This includes people with herpes lesions, rosacea, open sores or lesions, dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, and lupus
What about the Costs? The cost of treat varies according to the type of Micro-dermabrasion device used, your skin, geographic location of where you are receiving the treatment, and who is performing the treatment. The average cost can range from $75 to $350 per session. For a more accurate cost, consult your physician.
Our skin is composed of millions of cells. Each day thousands of these cells die and are replaced by new cells. The harsh elements in the environment take a toll on our skin. Debris and bacteria build up on the skins surface and prevents dead skin cells from falling off. The microdermabrasion process safely and effectively peels off the dead skin layer leaving healthy and rejuvenated skin.

You can eliminate adolescent acne, and reduce the amount of pimples and outbreaks that you have, no matter how many products you may have tried that failed. From the time that I was 13, until the time that I was 36, I suffered from severe acne. I had acne all over my face; and I also had blackheads all over my back. I went to the dermatologist; but he provided little help. All of the topical solutions, including Retina-A, only irritated my skin more. Everyone kept telling me that my acne would disappear once I got older. This was partially true; but although I had less bumps as I aged, the number of blemishes and spots on my face increased. Frustrated by years of acne, I decided to seek an all-natural solution to my bumps and blemishes. I had been a customer of Proactiv and Natureâs Cure for years, and of course they both worked for 1 month or so and then did nothing for the next three months. It seemed as though my acne learned to adapt. But, donât be dismayed. Your story does not have to be the same as mine. Acne can be eliminated for good. Before I give some solutions, letâs discuss what acne is and where it comes from.
What is Acne, Pimples, Blackheads, Whiteheads and Where do they come from?
Believe it or not, acne appears when your skin pores become blocked with sebum or excessive oil. This oil, which normally drains to the surface of the skin, becomes trapped. As a result, bacteria begins to grow, causing whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, or papules. When the trapped sebum and bacteria stay below your skin, you will get a whitehead. Whiteheads are those ugly, white bubbles that you are dying to bust. A blackhead, however, develops when the trapped sebum and bacteria partially open to your skinâs surface. The spot turns black because your skins pigment, melanin, reacts with the oxygen in the air to create a black, crusty bump. But what you most likely deal with is a âpimples.â Contrary to popular belief, facial blemishes are not caused by dirt. Pores do not get blocked from the top down due to . Rather, the walls of a pore stick together deep within the skin, starting acne formation. The key to eliminating acne is cleaning your pores and using a solution that purifies and penetrates your skin.
A pimple develops where there is a break in you skinâs follicular wall. Yep, it is an ugly mess. But, you can get rid of them.
How can I eliminate my acne, blemishes, pimples, and blackheads?
You need to clean your pores. By exfoliating the outside layer of your skin with a gentle exfoliating cleanser, you can remove excess dirt, oils, skin and bacteria that could be clogged below the skinâs surface or sitting on the epidermis. If this stuff is not removed, your pores will get clogged; and if your pores get clogged, acne appears.
Avoid alcohol, acids, and chemical solutions. Your skin needs to train itself to balance âsebumâ and oil and naturally fight bacteria. Alcohols, salicylic acid, Retina-A, and benzoyl peroxide, actually dry your skin. They take moisture from your skin. And, although moisture is the last thing you think you need when you have an oily face, you need it. Moisture actually protects your face from oncoming free radicals flying in the air at your pores. Also, chemical solutions and acids impair your skin from naturally fighting bacteria. Your skin begins to rely on something unnatural to fight something that naturally occurs. But, nature overpowers nurture in this case. Just like bug-eating plants learned to become immune to synthetic bug-killing fertilizers, acne-causing bacteria become immune to chemically created solutions. Why? Because chemical solutions are created to treat the type of bacteria they sought to treat that was in existence when the solutions were made. Unfortunately, bacteria are living organisms and they learn to mutate quickly. When mutation occurs, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide fail.
What is the Best Way to Treat Acne?
Step One.
Go all-natural. Essential oils, natural herbs, and natural nutrients are the best way to kill acne. Fight nature by using nature. Essential oils are higher powered and more effective than any acid or peroxide created in a lab that was âderivedâ from some natural source. They are extremely potent and not harmful to your skin. Furthermore, they actually help to balance sebum without making your skin oily. The best product on the market that has essential oils and kills acne is Beauty 4 Ashes Acne Eliminating Facial Kit. The makers claim that there stuff works overnight; and I have to say, it really does. It exfoliates and cleans your skin brilliantly. This product is also packed with lots of skin healing ingredients, including Aloe Vera. In the two months that used it, my acne and scars literally disappeared. Best yet, in one year, my acne and blemishes have not returned and my pores have shrank. Beauty 4 Ashes has several skin care products created to treat acne, but I recommend ordering their kit first to get a bit of everything. You can find it online at www.discoverb4a.com.
Step Two.
Consider taking flax oil on a regular basis. You need to keep your system clean. But, you donât need to spend tons of money on vitamins labeled natureâs cure. All you need to do is to flush your system of unnatural chemicals and preservatives that might be triggering your breakouts. You can buy flax oil anywhere. Check out Vitamin Shoppe or WalMart.
Step Three.
Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. This will flush your system from all impurities and toxins.

If topical solutions do not treat your acne and pervent new pimples, there are other methods.Acne bacteria are also every bit as susceptible to oral treatments as topical solutions, except that the first just works from the inside of the body instead of directly to the skin.
Why Oral Acne Treatment is Effective
The oral acne treatments usually change your bodys chemical balance.Excess sebum or natural oil inside the body usually produces the acne or pimple. To release this excess sebum, it is deposited in and passed through the skins pores. When the pore with the excess oil is blocked by dirt, dead skin or dirt, and mixed with bacteria forms into a pimple.
Treating the cause of excess natural oil in our body starts from the inside. There is a cause for the build-up of excess sebum. If that process can be reversed, the produciton of oil can be minimized. This is how oral acne treatments work: reduce the amount of natural oil going out through the skin by reversing the process of its production.
Comparing Oral and Topical Acne Treatment Methods
In some instances, topical medicine can reduce acne quicker than oral treatment methods. You ask why? Primarily because they are applied directly to the infected area. But the great negative factor for topical treatments is that they contain strong substances and chemicals.
Most topical treatments, for example, have ingredients that tend to dry up the skin and eliminate all natural oil, which the skin actually needs. That action makes the body secrete more oil, resulting to a cycle of production and elimination.
If you have previously had dry skin as a result of using topical treatments, then you understand what Im saying. So try oral acne treatments, but research for more info before you do try one.
Acnezine is one product recommended on many websites. Reading a review on Acnezine can let you know more about its curative effect, even if Acnezine is said to be the best oral acne treatment.
As stated above, oral acne treatment can produce positive results later than topical medicine. But oral acne treatment can produce better long term results because it stabilizes the bodys chemical balance so that excess oil is not produced.

To get rid of acne, you have to understand what causes it in the first place. All in all, the formation of acne pimples a pretty complicated process that even scientists and dermatologists don't fully understand. What is known though, can be summed up in a fairly simple manner ? Acne bacteria (p. acnes) get trapped inside a pore (hair follicle). The bacteria then feed upon the sebum (oil) trapped inside the pore, and multiply, causing an infection. The body spots this infection, and tries to protect itself from it, leading to inflammation, which makes for a huge, red, inflamed ?spot?.
Using this basic information, we can come up with three to-the-point ways to combat acne.
1.) Kill the bacteria. If there's no bacteria to cause an infection, then there will be no acne.
2.) Reduce the oil on the surface of the skin. Since oil can clog pores, and gives ?fuel? for the bacteria to thrive off of, less oil means less acne.
3.) Stop the pore from getting clogged in the first place. If you can keep dead skin cells from clogging up a pore, you'll reduce the number of spots.
With that said, we'll move on to the basic regimen.
Step 1 ? Washing your Face
In this step, we will be trying to accomplish two goals ? Removing excess oil from the surface of the skin, and killing the bacteria on the skin.
To do this, we will need a gentle, non-comedogenic, non-irritating antibacterial cleanser. These are few and far between, and I have only found one cleanser that can do the job: Noxzema ?Triple Clean? Cleanser. This is a gentle cleanser that contains an antibacterial ingredient called ?triclosan?.
First of all, splash your face once or twice with warm water. Then, squeeze about a dime sized amount of the cleanser into your hands. Work into a rich lather, and then apply to the face, being extra careful to be gentle. There is no need to scrub or rub it hard, as this will NOT help with acne, it will only make it worse. With that said, very gently, using no pressure at all, and only the tips of your fingers, rub it onto your skin for one minute straight. This is to make sure that all of the bacteria are killed off. Then rinse the cleanser from your face, and gently pat the skin dry with a clean towel.
Step 2 ? Benzoyl Peroxide
Benzoyl Peroxide is a very common over-the-counter acne treatment product. BP works by creating an oxygen rich environment within the skin, interrupting the metabolic process of the p. acnes bacteria, causing it to die off. It is also antiinflammatory, helping to reduce redness.
Avoid anything that is 10% BP, unless it won't be staying on your skin for long. Go for 5%, or better yet, 2.5%. The two products I recommend are Neutrogena's ?on-the-spot? acne treatment cream, and Stridex's BP pads. Both contain 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.
No matter which product you choose, apply it gently to your skin after cleansing.
Step 3 ? Salicylic Acid
Salicylic Acid is a beta hydroxy acid ? meaning it is an exfoliant, and will help your skin to shed dead skin cells faster. This prevents the dead skin cells from forming a clog inside pores, trapping bacteria and leading to a pimple.
The salicylic acid product I recommend is Clean Clear's ?advantage? acne spot treatment. It is a sort of gel, that contains 2% salicylic acid. It goes on smooth, is invisible once it has dried, and stays on all day to provide protection against acne.
After the benzoyl peroxide has dried, gently apply the salicylic acid. I use about a quarter sized amount for my face, but if your skin isn't ?used to it? yet, start with less.
And that's it! You're now protecting your skin from three major causes of acne, and hopefully your skin will begin to clear up!
This regimen is meant to be done twice per day ? once in the morning, and again at night. Since both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are irritating to the skin at first, don't jump right in. Your skin has to get used to the products before you can use them to their fullest extent. Be patient, and at first, only apply benzoyl peroxide, and only apply it once per day. Then work up to twice per day. Once your skin is used to that, add in the salicylic acid slowly. Eventually, you should be using quite a bit of both products. Definitely remember to wear a sunscreen if you'll be venturing out into the sun.

The patents systems created by the United States is the most successful system in the world. It still takes the US Patent Office about 12 to 18 months to review a patent application after it has been filed. You should learn a little about the origins of the US patent system so if you are waiting for the Patent Offices decision concerning your invention, you can do this during your waitingperiod.
Early Venetian patents did not result in the creation of a patent system but they were the first European patents that were issued in the Republic of Venice in the late 15h century. The patent system originated in England, also in the 15th century, with the 20-year monopoly granted by King Henry VI to John of Utynam for the use of a new method to make stained glass. Utynams was the first recorded patent in English history and it marked the beginning of the patent system that gives inventors official sanction to reap the economic benefits of theirinventions.
Later English developments built the foundation of both English and US patent laws. Before the English Parliament passed the Statute of Monopolies law in 1624, English royalty often used patents to grant trade and manufacturing monopolies to individuals who donated moneys to the royal treasury, and patentees could obtain monopolies for manufactures that were not new. The Monopolies Statute declared that patents could be issued solely to new inventions and stated that monopolies contradicted laws in England. Patent time limitations are also established by law. The English Court made it mandatory to describe inventions in writing before being able to have their patents accepted in the 18th century. The basis on which modern US patent law rests on consists of the English patent laws that were active during the Colonialperiod.
It did not take long, however, before the tables were turned; US Patent Law soon affected the development of English Patent Laws. Inventors can look to a clause in the first Article of the US Constitution, which pertains to Arts and Science, for protection in maintaining exclusive rights to their inventions. Prior to 1790, the King of England had been the sole official owner of all inventions created by thecolonists.
The US Congress accepted the first US Patent Statute in 1790; and then in 1836 a patent law passed providing the first patent system worldwide. An important feature of this new system is the reviewing of all patent applications to verify that the inventions are lawful and new. The 1836 statute created the US Patent Office where technically qualified employees examine patent applications. Now applicants have the right to go against decisions of the Patent Office even being able to take the appeal to the United States SupremeCourt.
At the time an elemental difference among many when it comes to the difference between the US Patent Law and patent laws of England or other European countries was that they dont aim at exacting prices for granting patents. They also have never been an instrument for raising revenue. In the US there were patent application fees (and are) reasonably priced. They are used only to cover the administrative expenses of the US Patent Office. In England, by contrast, exorbitant fees limited access to patents to a privileged few. Fees for patents covering England alone, without Scotland and Ireland, were equal to about four times per capita income in 1860. Patent fees were a source of revenues for the Crown and the Court, and inventors had to follow complicated administrative procedures before they could obtainpatents.
Concerns in the UK about increasing competition from the United States finally caused changes to be introduced into English patent law. During the 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition, England finally realized that the United States as well as by other European nations, represented a threat to its initial industrial supremacy. This realization signaled the start of a revision process that began in 1852 when Parliament approved the Patent Law Amendment Act the first real adjustment of the patent system in two centuries and lasted well into the twentieth century. Then they created the office of the commissioners of patents for Inventions obviously influenced by the US Patent law, the English patent law of 1852 lowered patent applicationfee.
US Patent Law was first created to encourage inventiveness. To permit the use of their inventions unlike many European countries, the United States does not require patentees. Nevertheless, although there have been many independent inventors in the United States since Samuel Hopkins received the first US patent in 1790, the most valuable patents today are owned by large corporations who have the means to exploitthem.
The dilemma between the merits of protecting independent inventors versus the drawbacks of monopoly is as relevant today as it was when the English Parliament passed the Statute of Monopolies law in 1624 almost four hundred yearsago.

SETTING: Thirteen Model Spinal Cord Injury Systems that provide comprehensive rehabilitation for people with traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) and that are part of the national database funded through the US Department of Education. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 412 people with SCI who use wheelchairs over 40 hours a week. INTERVENTION: Survey information was obtained from subjects via telephone and in-person interviews and from the national database. Collected information included age, race, education, level of injury, and wheelchair funding source. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Number and type (manual or power) of wheelchairs. Wheelchair customizability as defined by design features (eg, adjustable axle position, programmable controls). RESULTS: Ninety-seven percent of manual wheelchair users and 54% of power wheelchair users had customizable wheelchairs. No power wheelchair user received a wheelchair without programmable controls. Minorities with low socioeconomic backgrounds (low income, Medicaid/Medicare recipients, less educated) were more likely to have standard manual and standard programmable power wheelchairs. Older subjects were also more likely to have standard programmable power wheelchairs. CONCLUSIONS: The standard of care for manual wheelchair users with SCI is a lightweight and customizable wheelchair. The standard of care for power wheelchairs users has programmable controls.

I am one of those unlucky people who suffer from dry skin. This, in fact, is a problem I've had from a very early age. When I was young, I suffered from Eczema, which caused both myself, and my parents, a lot of concern - it was a daily regiment of ointments and bathing in special solutions. I won't go into any horrible details but, needless to say, it was far from pleasant. Nowadays, I'm happy to say, this condition has all but disappeared. The after-effect of this, however, means that most of the time I get very dry skin.
A friend of mine with similar problems, has been using dermatitis treatment with Gloves in a Bottle, and supplementing it with Skin MD Natural shielding lotion. They've reported back great results, so that's something I'm definately going to have to look in to.

There are many natural acne remedies being offered on the market today as alternatives to conventional acne treatments. Do these herbal products work?
The manufacturers claim they do. There are plenty of satisfied customers that say they do. The problem with herbal acne remedies lies not in the lack of testimonials but in the lack of scientific proof to back those testimonials.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) governs pharmaceutical products but there is no such agency to validate the health related claims of herbal products so, you must rely on your own judgement.
How then, do you decide whether or not herbal treatments and natural acne remedies are effective? Trial and error. Research the various herbs and learn what their special healing properties are.
